  1. The MeadowChislehurst

    A wide staircase stripped for a runner

    Years of family knocks on a cream hall and lobby for a repeat client. The staircase was wide enough to carry a stair runner, so we suggested stripping it back for one, then colour-coded the handrails and panelling in Farrow & Ball. The new flooring came from A J Rogers & Sons.

  2. Chislehurst

    Rust spots in new pebbledash

    The builders' new pebbledash was coming out in rust spots, where small pieces of iron ore in the aggregate react. That needs a different product from the usual, after the worst spots are dealt with. The builders had also left hundreds of paint spots on the rear doors by never covering them, so we steam-cleaned those off and washed everything down.

    A garden cabin with a dark grey base

    Light grey Sikkens on the cabin, two coats of brilliant white on the windows, and the bottom timber and both gables dark grey to match the decked patio. That darker base also hides the mud that splashes up at ground level far better than a light colour would.

Frequently asked questions

Can you decorate before new carpets go down?

Yes. Before one Chislehurst family moved in, we cut all the old carpet edges back ready for the new flooring, then prepared every surface.

Do you paint stair treads?

Yes. In a Chislehurst hallway we prepared and painted the treads with the rest of the staircase, in brilliant white Johnstone's Aqua Guard Matt.

Should a kitchen island match the cupboards?

It doesn't have to. In a large Chislehurst kitchen we suggested a slightly darker grey on the centre island than on the cupboards around it, for interest and contrast.

Can you give me a rough price before you visit?

A rough one, yes: rooms start from around £1,000 + VAT, and a hall, stairs and landing from around £3,000 + VAT. The real figure comes after we've looked, as it did for the house we decorated before its new owners moved in. We were quick to quote, and fitted the work into their time frame.
