Painting and decorating for period and family homes

Splat Decorating works in homes, never offices: halls and whole houses, the outside too, and the odd garden building.

A 15-year-old cedar-roofed garden office, restored near Park Langley

Fifteen years of weather on a cedar-shingled office by Park Langley Golf Club. Drag the line across the roof.

What made the difference

  • Moss and lichen wire-brushed off the shingles before anything else went near them.

  • Every board sanded with electric sanders, the grooves by hand, then washed down so no dust went under the paint.

  • The perished finial and the drip beads on both doors replaced, supplied and fitted by us.

What decorating costs: rooms and hallways

We'd rather you knew roughly where you stand before the dust sheets come out, so here are our starting prices for a room and for a hallway, stairs and landing. Everything else we price once we've seen it.

What moves the price, and how long jobs take

  • A room
    from around £1,000 + VAT
  • Hallway, stairs and landing
    from around £3,000 + VAT

Incredible experience. Colin compelted the work whilst we were away and the home was so clean and professional. Colin really supported us to choose the colours and brought round samples and discussed colours based on his years of experience. He was very professional and knowledgeable and we would book with him again. Extremly trustworthy, tidy and lovely blokes.

This is the 2nd job Colin & Harry have done for us & we couldn't be happier with the standard of the work, their efficiency & their good ideas. All of our downstairs was redecorated, kitchen/dining room/utility room & downstairs toilet. Everything was completed to very high standard & looks so much improved. They are also very easy to talk to & communicate clearly with excellent logical solutions to any issues encountered. We are already looking to book them in for some outside work in the summer.

Frequently asked questions

Which areas do you cover?

Beckenham, Bromley, Chislehurst, West Wickham, Orpington and Petts Wood, including Park Langley, Kelsey Park, Shortlands, Elmers End, Bickley, Hayes, Bromley Common, Coney Hall and Keston.

How much does decorating cost?

A room usually starts at around £1,000 + VAT and a hallway, stairs and landing at around £3,000 + VAT. Blown plaster, peeling paint or a lot of woodwork push it up, so the real figure comes after we've looked.

Will you come and look before you price?

Always. We see the walls, the woodwork and anything that needs repairing first, because that is what sets the price. Send a few photos with your enquiry and we can tell you a lot before we arrive.

Who will actually do the work?

Colin and Harry Fry, father and son. Nobody else: no subcontractors and no labourers, just the two of us from the first dust sheet to the last coat.

Do you only do domestic work?

Yes. We decorate homes: hallways, rooms, whole houses, exteriors, wallpaper, garden buildings and painted kitchens.

Are you insured?

Yes. Our public liability insurance was verified by TrustATrader in May 2026, and you can check it on our TrustATrader profile.
